Just like last season, Werder Bremen's goals for the 2010-11 campaign will not be set in stone straight away on the first day of training. The sporting heads of Werder made clear of that at the start of preparations. "We have handled things very responsibly in past seasons. We will evaluate the impressions and course of the preparations and then formulate our goals together," said manager Klaus Allofs before Tuesday's first training session of the new season. And he said there will be no surprises. "Of course we will be looking to play in the upper part of the table. We definitely want to be near the top and if possible be among the first three. We have a very talented team, you can see that from the World Cup. But there are some who stayed here in Bremen as well," said Allofs.
One of the top priorities for Werder will be the qualification for the Champions League. "That is very important for us and could have a certain influence on the course of the season," said Allofs. Head coach Thomas Schaaf can accept that statement. He mainly hopes for as few injuries as possible this season. A minor concern on Tuesday was centre back Naldo. The defender was forced to take a break due to knee pain. He is currently in Hannover for treatment as Schaaf said after the morning training. "He is expected to travel with us to the training camp on Norderney. And it looks like he will be able to practice on Friday," said the Werder coach.
