The big dream is ever closer: The German national team has reached the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup with a convincing 4-0 (1-0) victory over Argentina. Thomas Müller, Miroslav Klose (two goals) and Arne Friedrich scored the goals for Joachim Löw's team. Among the top players on the pitch was defender Per Mertesacker, who did not lose a single challenge during the game. In the semi-finals, the three-time world champions Germany will face off against Spain, who beat Paraguay 1-0. The semi-final will take place on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Durban.
Löw started the same line-up which beat England 4-1 in the quarter-finals. And the Germans found a perfect start to the game. Bastian Schweinsteiger sent a free kick in from the left side to Thomas Müller, whose header glanced off the leg of Argentina keeper Sergio Romero in for the first goal. Miroslav Klose (67th and 88th) and Arne Friedrich scored the other goals in the second half. Both Werder players Per Mertesacker and Mesut Özil played the full 90 minutes.
