Four years ago, Werder midfielder Tim Borowski was the match winner in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup against Argentina. Borowski set up the equalizer goal and later struck the decisive penalty. Just days before the rematch of the Argentina showdown in South Africa WERDER.DE spoke with the midfielder.

"That was one of the most emotional moments in my career," Borowski recalled the game four years ago in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. Germany were on the attack from the left side in the 79th minute and the then-26-year-old Borowski speculated on a cross from Michael Ballack. The Werder midfielder headed onto to former club team-mate Miroslav Klose, who headed in for the goal to make it 1-1. Later in the penalty shoot-out, Borowski converted the fourth and game-clinching spot kick.

"I was pretty confident beforehand because I had always took penalties pretty well in training," says Borowski from Germany. "But luckily we all took our penalties well!" And that victory sent Germany into the semi-finals and the football nation into euphoria. "It wasn’t just me and the team who were happy about the success, it was extremely important for all the fans in Berlin and all of Germany."

Borowski is following the 2010 World Cup on the television and keeping in contact with his Green-White team-mate Per Mertesacker by text message. And he is very much looking forward to the game Saturday against Argentina. "I think this year it will be a very interesting and intensive game. I am really looking forward to it and am crossing my fingers for our team," said Borowski.
