Werder striker Hugo Almeida and the Portuguese national team have reached the Round of 16 of the World Cup. In the final first round group match, Portugal played to a 0-0 draw against Brazil to move into the knockout stage.
Almeida did not play in the match, which did not have many highlights. The Portuguese’s next opponents on Tuesday in Cape Town will be the reigning European champions Spain. Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. Daniel Jensen meanwhile failed to reach the Round of 16 with Denmark, losing their final group match against Japan 3-1. Jensen will now undergo a minor operation on his groin. "Our team doctor Sören Kaalund told me I have to have a surgery to get rid of the mucous membrane," said Jensen.
The operation will not take place until after Jensen discusses it with Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. "I won’t get around having surgery," said Jensen. On a positive note, he will be able to run two weeks after the medical procedure. "That means I should be ready for the start of the season," said the 31-year-old Jensen.
