Werder's Mesut Özil scored a wonderful long range goal to send the German national team into the Round of 16 of the World Cup, sending millions of German fans into celebrations with a 1-0 victory over Ghana.
"It was an intensive game. The pressure was big, we had to win the game," said German national team coach Joachim Löw. "In the end, we got the job done. Now there is unbelievable anticipation ahead of the game against England." The Germans struggled early on in the game with Werder players Per Mertesacker und Mesut Özil in the starting line-up in front of nearly 85,000 spectators in a sold-out Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Germans fans finally breathed a sigh of relief thanks to a long distance blast into the upper left corner by Mesut Özil in the 60th minute. Now Germany take on England in the Round of 16 on Sunday.
