Werder Bremen management reacted to the impressions of the on-going World Cup and announced a ban on vuvuzelas at Weser Stadium. The plastic horn noisemakers, which are also being sold in Germany, may not be brought into the stadium for Werder Bremen home matches. "The invasive sounds of the horns would have an extremely negative effect on the usual atmosphere in our arena," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs. Through this action, Werder Bremen also would like to block any conflicts occurring between spectators over the use of the loud instruments.
"Just like we accept the African fan culture, we would like our football and all its emotions projected just like we love them. We are certain that a large majority of our fans have an understanding for the ban," said Allofs, who experienced a number of games in stadiums in South Africa.
