Torsten Oehrl is leaving Werder Bremen and transferring to FC Augsburg. The striker agreed to a two-year contract with the second division side. "FC Augsburg is certainly a good opportunity for Torsten to establish himself at the professional level. We wish him all the best for that and all the luck in his continued career," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs on Tuesday about the transfer of the 24-year-old. "I had two nice years with Werder in which I developed really well. And I thank Werder for that. But now it is time for the next step. FC Augsburg is an ambitious club with good perspectives. I am happy about my new challenge," said Torsten Oehrl.
Oehrl came to the Werder amateurs from SpVgg Greuther Fürth in mid-2008 and signed a professional contract one year later. The 1.93 meter striker appeared in 53 matches for Werder’s third division team and scored 23 goals. The Lichtenfels native played once for the professional side in each the German Cup, the Europa League and the Bundesliga. In the German Cup Round of 16 match-up with Kaiserslautern, Oehrl scored his first goal for Thomas Schaaf’s team. In addition he earned six caps for Germany’s U19 national team, scoring one goal. In the second half of the 2009-10 season, he was sent on loan to Fortuna Duesseldorf where he hit for two goals in 15 matches.
