Werder Bremen have secured their second acquisition for the 2010-11 season as Felix Kroos from Hansa Rostock signed on a contract until 30 June 2013 on Monday with the Green-Whites.
The 19-year-old offensive player has long been on the wish list of Werder's management. "Felix Kroos is a very talented player. We have been intensively observing him for more than two years and we are happy that we finally were able to come to an acquisition," said manager Klaus Allofs. "After a difficult season with Hansa, this is now the right step for him." Felix Kroos agreed with Allofs' assessment. "I had to do something new for my development. My goal is to become a Bundesliga player. Being able to train with so many stars at Werder will push me forward. And I am proud to be able to play for such a club," said Kroos. Thomas Schaaf knows well of Felix Kroos's big talent. "He brings with him quite a bit and we want to work with him together so that Felix can successively continue to develop with us. In the mid-term we have quite a few hopes in him," said the Bremen coach.
The former Rostock player would like to get noticed as quickly as possible in his new surroundings. "I will really give my all in the preparations and hope to make the professional roster if it goes well," said the 19-year-old younger brother of German World Cup participant Toni Kroos. "I am happy for what my brother has already accomplished. That is a real motivation for me. I can learn quite a bit from him," continued Felix Kroos. Werder Bremen is Felix Kroos's second professional club. From the youth divisions of Greifswalder FC, he transferred in 2002 to Hansa Rostock. During the third division Regionalliga season 2008-09, he made his debut in the men's division for Rostock's second team. He also played in the second Bundesliga, making 27 appearances for Rostock in Germany's second flight.
Felix Kroos also has played in all German youth teams between U16 and U19, scoring 20 goals in 34 international appearances at the youth level for Germany.
