Hugo Almeida scored two goals in the final World Cup warm-up match for the Portuguese national team. The Werder striker was subbed in at half-time of the 3-0 (0-0) victory over Mozambique in Johannesburg and collected national team goals number eight and nine.
"It was a good test match. We really supported each other well in our three goals. And that shows that we are well prepared for the World Cup. The game today only showed a little of what we are capable of doing. We are ready and I believe that we will go very far at the World Cup," said Almeida after the game.
After Danny put the Portuguese ahead in the 54th minute, Alemeida doubled the lead in the 75th. And he struck again seven minutes from time after a deflected long distance shot by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Werder striker was pleased with his work. "I came into the game and did my job. I knew from the beginning that I have the trust of coach Querioz and I think the nation of Portugal can trust me from today on too. It was unbelievable to score these goals. Now I have to do the same at the World Cup," said Almeida.
Portugal kick off their World Cup campaign on Tuesday, 15 June 2010 against Ivory Coast in Port Elizabeth.
