Following the nomination of Daniel Jensen for Denmark, Werder striker Hugo Almeida also booked his spot for the 2010 World Cup with a place on the Portuguese national team roster for South Africa.
Almeida’s nomination was not much of a surprise as he was a regular for Portugal in recent months and will head to South Africa as one of five strikers. Almeida, however, did not play in Portugal’s 3-1 victory over Cameroon in a Tuesday evening friendly.
Werder midfielder Daniel Jensen and Denmark lost their warm-up match against Australia 1-0 with Joshua Kennedy scoring in the 71st minute. Jensen played 45 minutes in the match in Johannesburg.
Denmark will face off against Holland, Japan and Cameroon in Group E in South Africa. Portugal are drawn into Group G with North Korea, Ivory Coast and Brazil.
