Head coach Thomas Schaaf named his squad for the German Cup final following the final training before the team’s departure for Berlin. The addition of Peter Niemeyer is the only change from the game roster of last week’s victory over Hamburg which secured a qualification spot for the Champions League. The midfielder is making his return to the game squad after months out injured.
Nearly 400 spectators came out to the training grounds on Ascension Day to support the team and get some final autographs. The team will be flying to Berlin at 9:30 a.m. and will have their final training at 6:15 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium ahead of Saturday’s final.
It’s high time that the Werder group heads out for the German capital as the diggers are already queuing up, waiting near the dressing rooms for the players to move out, which will come with the departure for Berlin. The dressing room wing as the players know it will no longer exist when they return. And the players will move over to the athletics hall for the coming weeks.
The following players were nominated for the game in Berlin: Wiese, Wiedwald, Naldo, Mertesacker, Pasanen, Fritz, Boenisch, Prödl, Frings, Özil, Bargfrede, Marin, Hunt, Almeida, Pizarro, Jensen, Borowski, Niemeyer.
