Tim Borowski was soaked from the rainy weather in Bremen but he looked relaxed heading back to the changing room after Werder training on Wednesday (which was closed to the public). Borowski missed training Tuesday after receiving a knock on his thigh in the North Derby against Hamburg. But Borowski said there was no reason for alarm with sights set on the German Cup final. "Training today went well. The muscle held up well and it shouldn’t be a problem to play on Saturday," said Borowski.
It should not be a surprise that Borowski is looking forward to Berlin. The midfielder has plenty of good memories about Olympic Stadium – and not just because he has often scored there in away matches against Hertha Berlin. The German capital was also the site of two of his biggest sporting successes. He scored two goals against Alemannia Aachen in Werder’s 3-2 victory in the 2004 German Cup final. And in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup, Borowski assisted on the goal to make it 1-1 for Germany against Argentina. He also converted his penalty when the World Cup match went to spot-kicks.
But it’s more than just sports success that makes Borowski enjoy Berlin. "Some friends live there. My family lives nearby. That is naturally something special," said the Neubrandenburg native. Another German Cup title would be that much more important for the 30-year-old Borowski.
