On Saturday night it was the stage where the team and the fans celebrated third place in the Bundesliga. By Sunday morning the first preparations were being taken for the demolition. The East Curve as it has stood since the middle of the 1990s is experiencing its final days. The roof had already been taken down in the past couple weeks and on Sunday it was time for the first rows in the standing sections in the north half. The seat shells were then dismantled Monday morning. And by Wednesday all seating will have been removed.
The players will be the last “residents” of the East Curve and then can turn out the lights. All visits to the East Curve’s business lounge have been suspended since Monday. The final tour of the stadium through the mixed zone, the referee’s locker room and the guests changing room took place on Sunday. And the press conference rooms are closed with official appointments ahead of the German Cup final taking place in the north grandstands.
The Werder fans will also not have access to the East Curve hall for the German Cup final due to the demolition work. A small consolation: the Werder fans will have a new home in the new east grandstands.
