It was the biggest news Tuesday morning as René Adler announced he would miss the World Cup due to his broken ribs. Werder Bremen keeper Tim Wiese and Manuel Neuer of Schalke now will decide between them who is Germany's number one between the posts in South Africa.
The Werder players were going through a lactate test when the news of Adler had been announced. So they heard afterwards that the Leverkusen keeper would miss the World Cup. Bremen's German international keeper Tim Wiese was surprised by the news. "Of course I feel sorry for René Adler to have to call off the World Cup so near to the tournament," Wiese said after the lactate test. When asked if he will play at the World Cup, Wiese said: "The national team coach decides that."
One player who knows both Tim Wiese and Manuel Neuer from both club play and the national team is Mesut Özil. And Werder's former Schalke playmaker regrets René Adler having to miss the World Cup. But he is not worried about Germany's chances in South Africa. "Of course it's a loss. But Tim Wiese and Manuel Neuer are both world class goalkeepers. Now the national team coach has to decide which of the two will play," said Özil.
