Werder Bremen, head coach Thomas Schaaf and his coaching staff were able to greet an old friend at Sunday's training following the home match against Cologne as Peter Niemeyer returned to team training after a two-month injury break.
"It was nice to be back at training and with the guys," said the 26-year-old, who was out with an ankle injury. It remains unclear if he will be able to play again this season for the Green-Whites. Still, Niemeyer was optimistic. "Of course I hope I can play again. I was in the team before the injury. And now I will try to get back in it," added Niemeyer.
Until his injury, Niemeyer had appeared in 11 Bundesliga matches as well as three German Cup games and eight games in the Europa League. His last match came on 27 February 2010 against Mainz.
