"You don't just ease to a victory on Saturday against Cologne," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf at the press conference before the home match on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. against Cologne. "They have an easier time away than at home as they let the other team dominate the run of play, keep things tight and stand compactly - which fits very well in their game style." Cologne are the fifth-best away team in the league, collecting 23 of their 37 points on the road.
The team from the Rhine River region, however, is also good for a slip-up with lots of ups and downs during the season. "It's a team that has very good performances but can miss a lot too," said Thomas Schaaf. The Bremen coach warned especially about Cologne players Lukas Podolski and Zoran Tosic, the latter of whom was acquired on loan from Manchester United. Cologne have already secured staying in the top flight for next season, and it's expected that they will wait for Green-White mistakes and push forward quickly with the counter attack. "That is their game, which they do very well," said Schaaf, who also had the antidote. "Creating a lot of pressure so that it will not even come to that." Regardless, Frings and company have been warned and had a strong, hopeful week of training. Schaaf said the team looks refreshed and livelier without the triple burden of European cup action, the Bundesliga and the German Cup.
