Werder Bremen will have nearly their entire roster available to them for the home match against Cologne on Saturday, 24 April 2010. The only two injured players are Christian Vander (pelvic inflammation) and Peter Niemeyer (ankle injury), who could not take part in Thursday’s training. Both will take a spot in the stands on Saturday next to Tim Borowski, who is out with his fifth warning.
Two returnees to the professional team training on Thursday were Sandro Wagner (after playing with the U23s) and Sebastian Mielitz, the latter who has recovered from his knee problems. The young goalkeeper played his first Bundesliga match in the first half of the season against Cologne, coming up with many excellent saves and not giving up a goal. But the training staff wants to wait and see if Mielitz is fit enough for a spot on the bench this time around. "That would naturally ease our situation in that area very much," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the keeper situation.
