Goalkeeper Christian Vander will remain with Werder Bremen for two more season as the 29-year-old extended his expiring contract with the Green-Whites Tuesday evening until 30 June 2012. "We are very satisfied with Christian. He was always there in the past when we needed him. Even though he doesn't have an easy role in the team, he is always very present every day and works well with the team. He is an important guy for our team structure," said Werder board of directors chairman Klaus Allofs. Head coach Thomas Schaaf was also satisfied with the result of the talks. "I am very happy that we can continue our way with Christian. He is a benefit for the whole team with his attitude and dependability," said Schaaf.
Christian Vander, who is currently labouring with a pelvic inflammation, is even more motivated to returning to the team with his new contract. "I decided to continue my work with Werder because the team still has a lot in mind. We want to return to the Champions League and I am really happy to soon run out in the newly renovated Weser Stadium," said Vander, who came to Bremen from Bochum in August 2005.
It remains unclear when Vander will return from his injury. "I am working every day a number of hours on it. We have different therapy approaches and I hope it goes quickly. The hopes of returning to the team training still for the final game days of the season are not over with, but they are not very big," said Vander.
