Head coach Thomas Schaaf thought about it a couple seconds and described the game against Freiburg as followed: "This has nothing to do with Freiburg, who presented themselves quite well in the first half hour. But compared to the other games we have experienced this season that was finally a really boring game. Today we played at a consistently high level. We were very active and a lot of people took part in our good actions. We took over positions for others and really passed wonderfully. I have to praise the team," said Schaaf.
The team did not only earn the praise from their coach but also three very important points. Combined with Dortmund’s surprising 1-0 loss in Mainz, Bremen are back in the fight for third place. "We want to go after this spot. I also said that after the Dortmund game. That is our big goal and I am happy that we won so clearly because it was an important step towards that. We are really happy about the result," said a very satisfied Mesut Özil, who contributed to the strong team showing with a goal. "We called up our potential today – we kept our sheet clean in the back and scored goals up front. We have to keep playing that way."
Claudio Pizarro also made clear that third place is still a major topic within the team. The striker even watched out for Dortmund on the scoreboard. "I saw that Dortmund allowed a goal and then a minute later I scored. That was a good phase for us. Dortmund’s result in Mainz is of course important for us. Third place was a goal for us before the game and now it’s even more," said Pizarro.
