Diego has been with Juventus Turin for nearly an entire year but he took out some time to talk to WERDER.TV after Green-White employees gave him the good news that a goal of his was selected as the best Bundesliga goal in Werder Bremen’s storied history. Which one? The Brazilian playmaker did not have to think too long about it. "The 60-yard shot against Aachen of course. I still see it in my mind. I was not sure if the ball would go in. But I know that I struck it perfectly," grinned Diego. "It was the best goal of my career," added the Brazilian, who even spoke German again about his time with Werder.
The ball magician commented exclusively for WERDER.TV about his goal from 62.6 meters (over 68 yards) against Alemannia Aachen. It was the only time that a goal by a Bremen player was not only voted as Goal of the Month but Goal of the Year. And Diego was truly a honourable winner of the Werder Bundesliga history vote, in which he had another goal up for selection.
Current Werder players are also fans of Diego’s special goal. "That was really an incredible and very special goal by Diego," said compatriot Naldo. "When a good friend of mine wins this kind of vote I am really happy for him." And Naldo agreed with Diego in another aspect: "I don’t think I have seen a better goal than that."
Striker Claudio Pizarro, who also had two goals up for vote, also thought Diego’s goal was tremendous. "That was a fantastic goal by Diego. That would have been tough even for me," laughed the Peruvian. "I am not sad to have reached only third place since the competition was so strong."
