The Werder players were back at training Tuesday after an Easter break of two practice-free days. A number of spectators came out for the 3:30 p.m. training as the team prepares for their important home encounter with Freiburg. Goalkeeper Christian Vander, however, was still unable to practice as he still is dealing with medical problems. After recovering from a gastro-intestinal infection, previous pubic bone inflammation has acted up. "It’s not really a matter of days before I can get back to training," said the frustrated keeper about the delay of his full fitness.
Fellow keeper Sebastian Mielitz (knee problems) as well as midfielders Peter Niemeyer (ankle injury) and Tim Borowski (flu) were also unable to train on Tuesday.
Also missing were strikers Sandro Wagner and Onur Ayik and keeper Felix Wiedwald, who were in training with the U23 team for their third division game Wednesday evening against Eintracht Braunschweig. U23 keeper Sebastian Patzler served as the backup keeper with the professional side.
Missing as well was Swedish national team striker Markus Rosenberg, who only had to complete a mandatory sports physical examination and had a training session with Peter Niemeyer in the morning. The Swede is expected back for the next training session at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
