Sandro Wagner had imagined the Easter celebrations differently, hoping to have celebrated his first game in half a year in coming back from his torn ligament. Instead, the Werder striker spent his Easter in the treatment facilities at Weser Stadium. During the final training of Bremen’s second team ahead of their game against Heidenheim (1-1) last Friday, he suffered a bruise to his left calf. “That was a really thick one. It even gave me problems in walking. And we said – no risk! But of course I was really disappointed. When you haven’t played in so long then you absolutely want to get back into competition,” Wagner said Tuesday morning.
His good spirits have long returned. Thanks to mid-week games of the U23 team, Wagner’s next attempt at his debut comes in three days as he hopes to play Wednesday evening against Eintracht Braunschweig. “It looks really good. I was treated pretty intensively during the Easter holidays and worked today alone already on some technical drills on the pitch. It went well, so I want to be back at the final training in the afternoon,” said Wagner.
