There was a great Marko Marin used a tremendous March to ease past the top competition. Marin was up for the award against Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben and the Bundesliga's leading scorer Kevin Kuranyi. And Germany's football fans offered up a clear winner with Marin receiving 62 percent of the vote followed by Kuranyi with 24.6 percent and Robben with 13.4 percent.
"When I woke up today there were a bunch of congratulatory text messages on my mobile phone. I didn't want to believe it at first. This victory over this competition really makes me happy. It's a great confirmation and really gives me a push for the end of the season and hopefully on my way to the World Cup," said the 21-year-old.
Marin has been exciting fans at Weser Stadium all season with his quickness, versatility, dribbling skills and unbelievable creativity. During March he scored against Valencia after a free kick variation and a struck an unbelievable goal against Augsburg in leading Bremen to the German Cup final. The best part of it all summed Werder manager Klaus Allofs. "This is not a top form, this is normal form for Marko. We will have plenty of fun with him. His big, big time is still to come," said Allofs.
