Werder Bremen captain Torsten Frings is still waiting for a decision from the German Football Federation (DFB) sports court following his red card last Saturday against Nurnberg. The DFB controlling committee Monday morning handed down a one-game suspension of the former German international, but Werder Bremen did not accept the ruling and appealed it in writing. Now the Green-Whites must wait to see how an individual judge rules on the incident. A decision is expected on Tuesday.
"We could not accept this ruling and have therefore filed for appeal because everything points to the fact that Torsten Frings did not do anything which would merit an expulsion in any form. The referee interpreted the situation falsely and took the wrong decision," said Werder's chairman of the board of directors Klaus Allofs.
Torsten Frings was shown the red card in the match against Nurnberg in the 83rd minute when he turned his body and accidently touched the face of Nurnberg player Thomas Broich. Television replays confirm statements from both players after the game that said the contact was unintentional.
