Head coach Thomas Schaaf had to make due without keeper Tim Wiese and centre back Naldo during team training Wednesday afternoon. Both Werder players were dealing with "small nicks" according to the Bremen coach, who at the same time said there is no reason for concern about the game on Saturday. "It doesn't look like we will be missing any players due to injury," said Schaaf. Werder's Brazilian defender will only be a spectator on Saturday anyhow as he is suspended for the match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Bochum. "The warning really aggravated me because it was not a mean foul against the Bochum player," said the 27-year-old Naldo.
Schaaf meanwhile hinted that Sebastian Prödl will likely play on Saturday, just like he did against Bochum. "He is the first option at the centre back position, He feels most comfortable there," said the coach. Regardless of the busy schedule the team has dealt with recently, coach Schaaf re-emphasised what's at stake the coming days and weeks. "We have to keep our concentration level high and give everything we have and show a can-do attitude," said Schaaf, who is busy preparing his team for Nurnberg on Satuday. "Thank God the game is not today so that we have a little bit of time to recharge our batteries and prepare ourselves," added the coach.
Backup keeper Christian Vander returned to the training grounds for the first time after recovering from his gastro-intestinal problems. The 29-year-old completed an individual training session away from his teammates with goalkeeper coach Michael Kraft. "I am a little tired. But I am getting better," admitted the Bremen keeper.
