"We want to reach the final and will not be stopped by anybody along the way – not even by Augsburg," said Sebastian Boenisch after the Green-Whites’ final training ahead of their German Cup semi-final Tuesday night. The 23-year-old’s comment underlined Werder’s ambition to defend their German Cup title. "The necessary concentration is there and everyone knows what’s stake," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.

It would be Bremen’s 10th appearance in the final since the inception of the competition. "We have the goal in our sights," said the Bremen coach. "The team is focussed and very motivated." Manager Klaus Allofs also stressed the importance of the match as well as underestimating their second division opponents. "For everyone involved, this game is very meaningful. It is a special game. And we absolutely want to head back to Berlin," said Allofs.

Schaaf meanwhile can once again rely on nearly his entire list of players. Other than Peter Niemeyer, who will miss the game with an ankle injury, and backup keeper Christian Vander (out with a gastro-intestinal infection), all players will be available to Schaaf. Aaron Hunt was back on the pitch at Monday’s training following muscle problems in his calf. "Aaron is available again. He trained in the morning and tried some ranges of motions. And he is pain-free," said Schaaf. Tim Borowski, who had to be subbed out on Saturday with a bloody nose, was also able to practice without a problem.

Thomas Schaaf nominated the following 18 players for the German Cup semi-final against Augsburg: Wiese, Mielitz, Naldo, Pasanen, Mertesacker, Fritz, Frings, Borowski, Bargfrede, Hunt, Marin, Özil, Prödl, Abdennour, Husejinovic, Almeida, Pizarro, Boenisch.
