While still in the locker rooms Thursday night Werder Bremen players tried to put behind them their elimination from the international stage and get ready for the next challenge. The Green-Whites only have 42 hours of preparations for the Bochum match in the Bundesliga. "There was a strange atmosphere in the locker room after the final whistle. We knew that the next game was right around the corner and we had to concentrate on it. So there was a sense of getting ready to go. Everyone knows it's not optimal to play already on Saturday. But we are taking it as it comes," said Bremen defender Per Mertesacker.
That also means getting over the physical strain. "We will have some heavy legs today with some bruises. But the coach will tone everything down a bit and prepare us so that we still have a good game on Saturday," said Mesut Özil looking forward to the tough showdown against Bochum. "The day after is always gruesome since the legs are hurting and there are small bruises from the hits you took during the game. But you will head back out there on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. because the motor is already running. Bochum is the next final for us. That will be very difficult. But that's part of the job - that things get difficult sometimes too," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs.
The following 19 players will be available for Thomas Schaaf against Bochum: Wiese, Mielitz, Naldo, Pasanen, Mertesacker, Fritz, Frings, Borowski, Jensen, Bargfrede, Rosenberg, Marin, Özil, Prödl, Abdennour, Husejinovic, Almeida, Pizarro, Boenisch.
