Werder Bremen are making the trip for their Europa League Round of 16 first leg against Valencia with Clemens Fritz. The right back returned to team training on Tuesday after recovering from his thigh problems. "I am somewhat surprised that things went without any problems for me. I don't have any pain, and I am very satisfied with the session," admitted Fritz. The 29-year-old really was pushed in the final training on German soil. "It was of course pretty good for me that the pitch was pretty deep and slushy. So I was able to test myself under difficult conditions and how the muscle reacts to the stress," said Fritz after training. Fritz did not however want to make any prognosis if he would start against Valencia. "After the injury break, I cannot say yet if I really have enough air in me for 90 minutes," said Fritz.
Philipp Bargfrede is also flying to Valencia Wednesday morning. The 21-year-old was not able to take part in the final team training session in Bremen, but head coach Thomas Schaaf nominated the midfielder for the 19-man game roster. The Green-Whites hope that their No. 44 can get over his cold by Thursday.
The following players took the trip to Valencia on Wednesday morning: Wiese, Vander, Fritz, Pasanen, Naldo, Abdennour, Prödl, Frings, Mertesacker, Jensen, Rosenberg, Marin, Hunt, Özil, Pizarro, Bargfrede, Husejinovic, Almeida, Borowski.
