Werder Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf showed plenty of respect for his team’s up-coming opponents Stuttgart at the press conference before the home game on Saturday, 6 March 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Weser Stadium. Schaaf said Stuttgart have returned to their former strength under new coach Christian Gross and they have played a strong second half of the season. "Christian Gross is an expert who knows what he wants, has clear ideas and takes a straight line as his way. He found his footing quickly in Stuttgart and took over the commando," said Schaaf. Of the nine matches under Gross, Stuttgart have won seven games and had one draw.
Stuttgart have used their strong showings to jump to eighth place and are only four points behind Werder. "We want to decrease our margin from the top. In the current standings situation Bremen is a direct competitor of ours," said Gross ahead of the showdown at Weser Stadium. Werder of course have their own goals, which the Werder coach expressed. "We want to create some more space from our competitors and at the same time make our way into the forefront. We need results and points so that the teams up top cannot relax," said Schaaf. So a victory against a strong Stuttgart side would be a perfect result for Werder on Saturday at Weser Stadium.
