Head coach Thomas Schaaf welcomed a rather small group of players during training Tuesday morning at Weser Stadium. With national team nominations and injuries, the 48-year-old coach only had 11 players available.

While Clemens Fritz continues to watch from afar with thigh and back problems, Tim Wiese could only complete individual training due to a muscle strain. And now Peter Niemeyer has been bit by the injury bug. The 26-year-old received a knock on his ankle during the Europa League match against Twente Enschede but fought through the pain for 90 minutes against Mainz. "It’s just a precautionary measure," said Niemeyer Monday afternoon. "I would like to fully recover from the injury before I train with the team again," said Werder’s midfielder, who plans on returning to team training by the latest Thursday, 4 March 2010 – just like Tim Wiese. That is when the international players are expected back in Bremen
