Werder’s Austrian is experiencing one thing after another. After scoring the winning goal for Bremen over the weekend, Sebastian Prödl was a late nominee for the Austrian national team’s friendly against Denmark. Austrian team boss Constantini will have to do without English Premiership player Emanuel Pogatetz, leaving a spot for the Werder defender in the red-white squad. "I am really excited about the invitation to the national team," said Prödl shortly before his departure for the Austrian capital. "It is always nice to play for your country," said the 22-year-old, who arrived at the Austrian team hotel in the afternoon.

The game at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna will be a showdown of two Bremen players. Denmark’s national team coach Morten Olsen gave a late nomination to Daniel Jensen. The 30-year-old had finally played for Werder over the weekend following his foot injury, getting subbed in for Mesut Özil after 79 minutes.

Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf is without a six other players in German internationals Marko Marin, Mesut Özil, Per Mertesacker and Aaron Hunt as well as Hugo Almeida of Portugal and Hungarian Marko Futacs.

In Germany’s final test match before the announcement of the provisional World Cup by head coach Joachim Löw they will take on Argentina. The match will take place on 3 March 2010 at 8:45 p.m. in the Allianz Arena in Munich. "I am really looking forward to a showdown with world class players such as Tevez and Messi," said Mesut Özil after Bremen’s 2-1 victory over the weekend.

Werder attacker Hugo Almeida travelled to the Portuguese national team after his short appearance in Mainz. Head coach Carlos Queiroz’s team began preparations for the friendly against China, planned for Wednesday 3 March 2010 at 9:45 p.m. (GMT) at Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.

Werder’s young talent Marko Futacs will play for the Hungarian U21 national team on Wednesday night against Italy in Rieti. The qualification match for the U21 European Championship in Denmark will start at 6 p.m. at Stadio Centro d'Italia.
