Sebastian Prödl’s first Bundesliga goal helped Werder to three points with a 2-1 victory over Mainz. And there was a strange feeling of joy for the Austrian. "To have scored your first Bundesliga goal with such a lucky shot of course is something special. It was supposed to be a shot on goal, but that it went it is just unbelievable. I was so happy but could not believe in the moment that it went in," said Prödl, who was subbed in about 25 minutes into the game for the yellow-carded Aymen Abdennour but remained modest. "I don’t think I should make any claims for a starting position."

And the Green-Whites finished off a great week as Aaron Hunt said. "Certainly that was a perfect weekend for us and a very successful week," said Hunt including Bremen’s advancing past Twente Enschede in the Europa League Round of 32. But there is still a long ways to go. "We shouldn’t look too far up just yet. Our first goal is to get past Dortmund. We want to take the next step next weekend. And we are on a good way," said the 23-year-old Hunt. "But we are not where we want to go."

Werder attacker Claudio Pizarro saw Bremen’s situation much the same way. "With these three points were are back in the mix," said the 31-year-old. "We have to try and push forward in the next few games." Pizarro made sure that all know the team is still far from where it wants to be. "The top spots are still very far away. If we keep winning, we will have to see what comes of it all."
