Werder Bremen head into their Europa League Round of 32 return home leg against Dutch side Twente Enschede Thursday night with confidence but also a high level of respect. "The atmosphere is very good," said striker Claudio Pizarro, who could not help Werder from losing the first leg in Enschede 1-0.

That makes it all the more important that the Green-Whites score an early goal at Weser Stadium to pave the way into the Round of 16. "Of course we don’t want to wait too long," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about his tactical plan for the team. "On the other hand, we cannot play too risky," Schaaf added. The main thing for the Bremen coach is that his team “plays more active than in Enschede".

One player who could help the Green-Whites advance another round is the 20-year-old midfielder Philipp Bargfrede, who is finally fit after his knee problems. "Philipp is completely back in training,” said Schaaf, who would not say if Bargfrede is an option for the starting line-up. “Of course he is missing game practice. We will have to wait and see if he can play from the start or just a part of the game," said Schaaf.

The following 18 players were nominated by head coach Thomas Schaaf after the final training: Wiese, Vander, Pasanen, Naldo, Borowski, Rosenberg, Marin, Özil, Ayik, Prödl, Bargfrede, Abdennour, Husejinovic, Frings, Almeida, Pizarro, Niemeyer, Mertesacker.
