The unbeaten Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen come to Weser Stadium on Sunday, 21 February 2010 for a much-anticipated showdown. Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf showed plenty of respect for his up-coming opponents. "They play as an extremely compact unit which also has plenty to offer individually," said the coach.

Question marks for Pizarro, Pasanen and Hunt

Leverkusen’s defensive boss Sami Hyypi is suspended for the match, but Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro is a question mark for the game. The Peruvian is currently dealing with "slight knee problems" as the coach said Friday. "Two more question marks are Aaron Hunt and Petri Pasanen," said Schaaf. Hunt is suffering from a thigh muscle problem and Pasanen is fighting with a sore groin. Their availability will be determined by the Green-Whites’ final training.

"Bremen are on their way back up and are really playing strong football," said Leverkusen’s former Werder player Manuel Friedrich. And his head coach Jupp Heynckes told the kicker magazine: "Werder have ended their winter hibernation and have a strong team." Leverkusen, however, come to Bremen with plenty of confidence. "We feel entitled to be a top team, to be up top and stay there," said Friedrich. Leverkusen will be coming to Bremen looking to leave Weser Stadium with at least one point while Werder could desperately use the full three points to move up the standings. So fans can expect an exciting and interesting match.
