For FC Twente, Thursday is a holiday. At least that’s how their English head coach Steve McClaren sees the Europa League showdown with Werder Bremen. "It’s a great draw for us. This is a big opponent from a strong league. They have a long history, score a lot of goals and have excellent players with strong individual skills. They are the big favourites," said the former English national team coach, who has observed Werder Bremen twice recently including travelling to Bremen extra for the German Cup match last week.
Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf meanwhile was hardly secretive the evening before the game against Enschede. "We have carefully prepared. We know the opponents, the stadium, and know the excitement coming from the stands. And we know that this opponent is stronger than they makes themselves out to be," said the coach.
Good news for Werder is that Aaron Hunt is once again available, getting the green light from Schaaf on Wednesday. "He was banged up yesterday, but the injury turned out not to be as bad as it first appeared. He can play," said the coach.
