Claudio Pizarro had long been subbed out but the more than 5,000 Werder fans were still honouring him with chants and songs. The attacker then came out of nowhere during the game and handed his jersey to a fan with a Pizarro sign. It was an uncommon occurrence – even more so considering the game was at the AWD Arena in Hannover. "We take our duties seriously, but there has to be a little fun too. You can only do something like that when you’re leading 5-1. Then that’s part of our service. Besides, he suffered a minor bruise and he needed to move around a bit," said manager Klaus Allofs, understanding of the extravagant solo of his Peruvian.

But the striker, who scored his ninth goal in his 14th Bundesliga appearance, was not the only one having loads of fun. "Even Petri was playing like a mad man today. He always starts matter-of-factly. But when he’s on a roll, he will even break out a heal pass," joked Per Mertesacker. Aaron Hunt was also in good spirits after the 5-1 victory. "I wanted to push quite forward this time because the last few free kicks have been short. And that was the case this time. I passed on the ball and was very surprised when it went in," said Hunt.

Even though there were plenty of goal scorers for the Green-Whites, the biggest point of criticism this afternoon was the conversion ratio. "No one would believe it if you just won 5-1 and you still find negatives. But if you want to pick something out, then it would certainly be that we lacked that coolness in attack," said Allofs. "Hannover could be happy that we only led 4-0 at the break," added captain Torsten Frings.
