The opinions of Werder Bremen’s victory over Hoffenheim were unanimous. After the second 2-1 victory within a few days, Bremen took another step towards returning to their old form. Head coach Thomas Schaaf said after the match that he was satisfied with his team’s showing. "That was a clear improvement again. You could see that things we have talked about have had an impact. We were very calm and acted more sure of ourselves than in the past few weeks and we are very happy about this success," said the coach, who did say that he still sees room for further improvement in his team. "The goal we allowed should not have happened. The mistake happened much earlier. And we have to be more active in our playing," said Schaaf.
"From a playing standpoint, that was much better today though we should have added on the second goal earlier. But of course we are very satisfied about the happy end. Especially the reaction after the 1-1 equaliser showed that we didn’t want to get eliminated. You could once again see the unconditional dedication of every individual player. We gave everything we could to help out each other," said manager Klaus Allofs.
Captain Torsten Frings also recognised a clear improvement in the team’s performance and hopes that they have stopped the negative trend of the previous weeks. "We really did a great job of holding our own, often doubling Hoffenheim and really going very aggressive into the tackles. Once again, we really had some good stages in our game. And I don’t think we left a doubt that we absolutely wanted to reach the semi-finals. The victory was deserved and gives us back some of the confidence we had lost," said the 33-year-old captain. "Frings" also says he is convinced that the Bundesliga victory over Hertha Berlin was the turning point in a positive direction for the team. "The victory was very important because we finally were able to fight our way into the game and we really defended our goal well," said Frings.
