Werder Bremen will become 111 years old in just a few hours. And the first highlight of the coming 111 days of celebrations and numerous events and actions will be the official ceremony in Bremen's City Hall Thursday afternoon. And for six Werder personalities the reception with 200 invited guests will be a special event as they will be become honorary members of Werder Bremen. And there is plenty of prominence among the group. Not only will current chairman of the supervisory board Willi Lemke and Manfred Müller be honoured but as will the club's two most successful coaches in history, Thomas Schaaf and Otto Rehhagel, as well as long-time assistant coach Karheinz "Kalli" Kamp - who worked with both coaches. In addition, track and field athlete Karl Kluge, who won a number of titles in the 1940s and 1950s, will become an honorary member.

During the festivities in the City Hall, the president of the Sport-Club "Werder" v. 1899 e. V. and Werder Bremen manager Klaus-Dieter Fischer as well as his fellow manager Klaus Filbry will both hold speeches. The reception will be opened by Jens Böhrnsen, the president of the senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.

"Of course we have had better days in sports. But you have to separate them from the celebrations for the 111th birthday. When a club has developed so extraordinarily and specially over such a length of time, when a club has become so anchored in a city, when the people of this club live like they do here, you have to take some time out to accentuate that," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf one day before the celebrations began.

Among the guests for the two-hour festivities are members of all bodies of SV Werder as well as important sponsors, guests from the worlds of politics and football including football expert Günter Netzer. And the evening will finish off in the Bremen Ratskeller cellar.
