There is bad news for all Werder fans as Claudio Pizarro will miss the match against record champions Bayern Munich. Head coach Thomas Schaaf made the announcement after the final training on Friday afternoon. "Claudio has a cold and will not be available," said the 48-year-old coach. Pizarro’s missing the game is quite a setback as Bremen have struggled of late in the attack. "We will miss Claudio without a doubt. But we have to live with that now. We have also won games in the past without him," said the coach, trying to give encouragement to his team for the game. "Most important is that we score more goals than our opponents," added Schaaf.
Werder captain Torsten Frings was also disappointed about the Peruvian missing the game. "Of course Claudio will be missed with his quality. We saw in Frankfurt that it’s difficult for us without him," said Frings.
Also not on the Green-Whites’ game roster is Daniel Jansen. "Daniel will definitely not be with us. He has problems again with his foot, and he can’t go," said Schaaf of the Danish international. It remains unclear meanwhile if Sebastian Prödl will be available for Werder on Saturday. The Austrian was struck in the ankle near the end of training and limped his way toward the changing room. "We have to wait and see if it swells up," said the 22-year-old Prödl, who did not want to say if he could play on Saturday.
Also missing at Werder’s final training was Jurica Vranjes. Schaaf said the Croatian is looking for a new club.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf named the following 18 players for his game roster against Bayern Munich: Wiese, Vander, Pasanen, Naldo, Mertesacker, Fritz, Abdennour, Borowski, Rosenberg, Marin, Özil, Hunt, Prödl, Husejinovic, Frings, Almeida, Niemeyer, Moreno
