"It didn't take the aftershock in Haiti to recognise the unimaginable suffering the earthquake catastrophe brought to the country and its people. Werder Bremen know of their enormous social responsibility and know of no borders," said Polster of the decision to donate the money.
Werder Bremen hope to do whatever possible so that the people on site can be helped as quickly and with as little bureaucracy as possible.
In early 2005, Werder Bremen donated 100,000 euros to tsunami victims in Thailand.
