Werder Bremen have received on loan Tunisian international Aymen Abdennour until 30 June 2010 in a deal which includes a buyout option. The 20-year-old left back transfers to Bremen with immediate effect from Etoile Sportive du Sahel. He will fly with Werder to Frankfurt this weekend for the Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt. It remains unclear if he will be eligible for the game on Saturday.
"With Aymen Abdennour we have acquired a very talented player, who has quite a lot of experience despite his age. We have observed him during his appearances with his nation's junior national team and training the past couple days as well. And we believe he has the potential to strengthen our team," said manager Klaus Allofs. Head coach Thomas Schaaf also thinks the defender could take over a strong role in the team. "He is a very interesting player, who is extremely ambitious. With his quickness and his willingness in tackles, he has the goods to prove himself with us," said Schaaf.
The Tunisian is looking forward to the chance in the Bundesliga. "I absolutely wanted to come to Werder because it's a well-known and big club in a strong league. I have faith in myself in this step. I will give everything I have to have success here. I know that they have put a lot of trust in me here. And I would like to justify that as quickly as possible," said Abdennour.
Aymen Abdennour has played with Tunisian club Etoile Sportive du Sahel since 2008 as a professional. The 20-year-old scored five goals in his 33 appearances with the team. A strong player in the air, Abdennour is currently captain of the Tunisian U21 national team, with whom he has played since he was 17 years old. The left-foot specialist also has played for the African nation's senior side for the past year and already earned three caps.
