Werder Bremen have sent 24-year-old striker Torsten Oehrl on loan to second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf until the end of the season. "We think this move makes sense since Torsten will have a good chance to gather game experience with an ambitious second division club," said Werder manager Klaus Allofs. "Recent examples such as John Jairo Mosquera and Martin Harnik have proven that the step a class lower can have a very positive effect," added Allofs. "It is a good opportunity for Torsten to continue his development. I wish him much success," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.
Torsten Oehrl transferred to Werder's amateurs in mid 2008 from SpVgg Greuther Fürth before signing a professional contract one year later. The 1.93m striker played 53 times for Werder's third league team, scoring 23 goals. The Lichtenfels native played one game with the professional squad in each the German Cup, the Europa League and the Bundesliga, scoring his first goal for Thomas Schaaf's team in the German Cup Round of 16 against Kaiserslautern. In addition, Oehrl has played six games for the German U19 national team and scored one goal.
