With the start of the second half looming close, the Green-Whites trained twice on Tuesday. Head coach Thomas Schaaf called his troops in for a one-hour morning session with shooting and coordination drills. In the afternoon, Werder worked on game formations with their own U23 team. "What was important for us was that everyone got moving and we could try out some things - nothing more, nothing less," said the Bremen coach afterwards.
One player was on the pitch in shorts and short sleeves on Tuesday who very few expected to see. Tunisian test player Aymen Abdennour was not at the training camp in Dubai but will have a chance to prove himself at left back. "Aymen will train again with the team in the next couple days. Then we will see," said Schaaf, who would not offer to journalists an evaluation of the 20-year-old.
However, once again missing training on Tuesday were Per Mertesacker, Sebastian Prödl and Hugo Almeida. While Mertesacker was dealing with a gastro-intestinal infection, the Austrian Prödl had a minor case of bronchitis, completing running drills with fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel and working out in the weight room. Hugo Almeida also was only able to work out on his own due to a cold.
