Frank Baumann's first task on Monday morning was to head directly down to the training pitch, where crew members were already busy clearing away snow. "Whether or not we can have orderly training is one of the most important questions of the next few days. So I wanted to check it out for myself right away," said Baumann, who had a positive opinion of the pitch conditions. "The last bit of snow is being cleared now. I think that we can have an orderly training on it."
The 34-year-old Baumann moved into his new office on the fourth floor of the business offices today following the training camp in Dubai. It's the former office of Jürgen L. Born, right next to the workspaces of the three managers Klaus Filbry, Klaus Allofs und Klaus-Dieter Fischer. Baumann's office is still sparingly furnished with white walls, a desk, a computer and printer. There hasn't been much time yet for making it feel homely. "Today we have to organise everything - computer access, mobile phone and keys. Besides, I also have my first meeting. At 12 p.m. I will sit in at the meeting on the youth performance centre. I would like to show my face whenever I can and there is time," said Baumann.
The 2002 World Cup runner-up does not however have antsy feet any more when he watches training from the sidelines. But it was an issue for him for a while. "Before I came back to Weser Stadium for the first time again in the fall, I had respect about how it would feel being back. But now I know that it's easier for me than I thought. That's because I really thought about my decision. I don't sense any needs or yearnings. My professional career is over with," said Baumann.
