Werder's players and training staff arrived safe and sound in Bremen Saturday night despite snow showers. The airplane landed at 6:21 p.m. with a slight delay. Upon arrival, the Green-Whites picked up their suitcases from the baggage carousels and immediately grabbed out their winter jackets. Afterwards they all returned home after a strenuous week for a Sunday free of training. Head coach Thomas Schaaf will not call his troops back for training until Monday afternoon.
Schaaf spent part of the six-and-a-half hour return flight over Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Eastern Europe for an exclusive interview with WERDER.TV, saying he was satisfied with the proceedings of the past week. "I think that everything needs to fit just right during this kind of training camp. And it was very good how we worked out everything logistically. In principle, we could do this again," said Schaaf.
The coach said he hopes his team can quickly get acclimated back to the cold, snowy conditions: "I am confident that the players will have an easier time going from warm to cold than the other way around." It is unclear which players will be available on Monday. Timo Perthel (calf injury), Niklas Andersen (groin problem), Onur Ayik (muscular problems) and Jurica Vranjes (strained thigh) all missed the final training Saturday morning.
