On Werder's final day in Dubai, the team experienced the hottest day of the week with temperatures soaring to 34 degrees Celsius in the team bus when it left for training in the morning. "That's a little too much for your own good," groaned Torsten Frings, who also admitted he was looking forward to the snow back home in Bremen. "I really like it when we train in snow. That is somehow special. Besides, we also have to get used to those conditions. After all, the league starts back up in a week. And on Saturday we are expecting a 35 degree difference in temperatures when we return," said the Bremen captain.
Despite the heat, head coach Thomas Schaaf had his team work out really hard. Included in the training group on Friday were two returnees in Petri Pasanen, who got over his bruised left thigh and gastro-intestinal problems to complete the full training program; and Clemens Fritz, who came back from his back and groin concerns. Things look less promising for Aaron Hunt, who felt weak with the beginnings of an infection and stayed behind in the hotel. "We hope that it's not too bad and are just giving him some rest," said Schaaf.
