It's all clear for Claudio Pizarro. The Peruvian was able to complete the full training program on Wednesday after he limped off the pitch and had to be subbed out following a challenge in Tuesday's test match. The 31-year-old spoke optimistically after his cool-down run. "I am pretty sure that I can practice with the team in the afternoon as well," said Pizarro, who had fans scared for a bit.
"Claudio was out for a long time with an injury exactly where he was hit yesterday. So it's clear that he had to wait and listen to himself and have a certain self assurance," said head coach Thomas Schaaf, who has planned with his striker for the next practice sessions at the training camp. "I assume that it's not too bad and he just needs a certain strengthening of the foot," added that coach.
Schaaf meanwhile had to due without youth player Onur Ayik as well as Petri Pasanen at Wednesday training. While Ayik could complete a light running drill with a hardened thigh muscle, the Finn Pasanen could only watch from the sidelines with a gastro-intestinal problem and a bruised left calf. Hugo Almeida did not take part to morning training due to muscular problems but was back on the pitch for the second practice.
Right back Clemens Fritz meanwhile is on his way back to fitness. The 29-year-old had an individual workout on Wednesday but he believes he's close to returning to team training. "After talks with our doctor, I want to work on getting back full time maybe already by the end of the week," said Fritz.
