Every Werder player will certainly remember the night they were in Al Ain. It was almost irrelevant that the Green-Whites brought home their first cup of 2010. All of the celebrations revolving around the German-Arab Super Cup left many Bremen players astonished, surprised and in smiles. "There is a lot different here and something special. I have never seen so many sheiks at one time," said Per Mertesacker.
"That was hard work for us. We did not play quick enough and let them get into their game. But in the end we deserved to win," Daniel Jensen told Dubai Sports Channel directly after the final whistle. Head coach Thomas Schaaf also offered up his opinion. "I don't want to be too critical because the circumstances were extraordinary and we subbed out a lot of players in the second half. We had some good stages of the game but we should have more calm in bringing home the game in the end. Maybe we thought too much of ourselves," said the coach.
But the Werder group's night was anything but a short, quiet affair as the Green-Whites pleased the hosts and visited a dance presentation in a tent erected next to the stadium despite the late hour. After this extra time, Werder are certainly the most likable German team in the Emirate Abu Dhabi.
