Werder Bremen's first game of the 2010 calendar year comes on Tuesday, 5 January 2010 at 5 p.m. CET against Arab side Al Ain FC. "The game is very important for us because we do not have a lot of time for preparations. I don't think that we will experiment too much. The team needs to quickly get used to the weather conditions," said head coach Thomas Schaaf.
Regardless of result, Al Ain look forward to the challenge
The test against a German team also provides a good chance for the opponents from the Arab Emirate to prepare for the up-coming AFC Champions League 2010. "I am happy that we can play against Werder Bremen because we need these kinds of games to prepare for the continental championship in Asia," said Al Ain midfielder Hazza Salem. Werder must prepare themselves for highly motivated opponents who look to present themselves strongly in front of a large television audience. "We know that we will have a tough game tomorrow. Al Ain is a good team with good talent among their ranks. And we are just at the beginning of our preparations. But we hope to be successful and offer the spectators something strong," said manager Klaus Allofs ahead of the game at Khalifa Bin Zyed Stadium.
