Heading to Dubai on Sunday morning - 26 players on hand

The winter break is over with for Werder's professional squad. The Green-Whites left heavy snow-covered Bremen at 8 a.m. Sunday morning for their training camp in Dubai....

The winter break is over with for Werder's professional squad. The Green-Whites left heavy snow-covered Bremen at 8 a.m. Sunday morning for their training camp in Dubai. Werder's coaching staff plans to have 26 players on hand for the training at the Al Wasl Stadium at Oud Metha Road.

 

The only players missing will be injured Sebastian Boenisch (rehab after knee operation) and Philipp Bargfrede (knee injury) as well as Jurica Vranjes and Dusko Tosic, who will be staying in Bremen. Instead, working out with the team are U 23 goalkeepers Sebastian Mielitz and Felix Wiedwald as well as third division teammates Onur Ayik, Timo Perthel and Niklas Andersen. Also with the team in Dubai will be the Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour, who tested with the Green-Whites in Bremen in December.

 

The first test match of the year comes on Tuesday, 5 January 2010 in Al Ain - some 150 kilometres away - against the Arab Cup winners Al Ain Club. The game will be broadcasted live on WERDER.TV. Fans interested fans can view the game for the individual purchase price of 2.99 euro. Of course, the broadcast is free of charge for WERDER.TV subscribers.

 

The following 26 players will take part in the training camp in Dubai:

Goalkeeper: Wiese, Vander, Wiedwald, Mielitz

Defence: Naldo, Pasanen, Fritz, Prödl, Andersen, Mertesacker, Abdennour

Midfield: Borowski, Özil, Hunt, Jensen, Frings, Niemeyer, Perthel

Attack: Rosenberg, Marin, Husejinovic, Almeida, Pizarro, Futasc, Moreno, Ayik
